Okay, confession time: working with fresh balsam is not easy.
Balsam fir is the foundation of every wreath we make. Come tipping season, the weather becomes one of our biggest challenges. Just this past year, temperatures didn’t drop when we needed them to, resulting in subpar balsam fir tips we simply couldn’t use. That meant scrambling later in the season to find additional tippers to make up for what we were missing.
Like I said, not the easiest path compared to a fake wreath.
No two bundles are the same. The tips dry out. They can shift and even lose needles during delivery. Of course, most of these issues could be avoided if we used a mix of plastics and “forever” materials. But we don’t. Because the challenge of working with something real is exactly what makes each finished wreath more meaningful, especially when it finds a home on your door.
One more confession: our wreaths come with a countdown every year, and that’s entirely the point! Because part of what makes a handcrafted, fresh wreath special… is that it doesn’t last forever.
Final confession I promise. Thank you for reading this far, it means a lot to me.
